CEPT (Conférence Européenne des administrations des Postes et des Télécommunications) In English, the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (or Confederation of European Posts and Telecommunications) was established in 1959 by 19 countries to coordinate the activities of the monopoly postal and telecommunications administrations with respect to commercial, operational, regulatory, and technical standardization issues. In 1988, CEPT established the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), which assumed responsibility for all matters of technical standardization. In 1992, the postal and telecommunications operators created their own organizations, Post Europe and the European Telecommunications Network Operators’ Association (ETNO). CEPT now act largely as a forum for coordination and a force for building relationships among the member nations, now numbering nearly 50 throughout Europe. See also ETNO and ETSI. |
