| Langevin-Debye formula [länzh·van dǝ`bī ´fȯr·myǝ·lǝ] STATISTICAL MECHANICS A formula for the polarizability of a dielectric material or the paramagnetic susceptibility of a magnetic material, in which these quantities are the sum of a temperature-independent contribution and a contribution arising from the partial orientation of permanent electric or magnetic dipole moments which varies inversely with the temperature. Also known as Langevin-Debye law. |
