A gelatinous mass formed from the reaction of cellulose with water either by grinding cellulose and mixing with water, or by using strong salt solutions, acids, or alkalies; used in the manufacture of artifical fibers such as rayon, mercerized cotton, paper, and vulcanized fiber.
