trunnion [`trǝn·yǝn] DESIGN ENGINEERING 1. Either of two opposite pivots, journals, or gudgeons, usually cylindrical and horizontal, projecting one from each side of a piece of ordnance, the cylinder of an oscillating engine, a molding flask, or a converter, and supported by bearings to provide a means of swiveling or turning. 2. A pin or pivot usually mounted on bearings for rotating or tilting something. ENGINEERING A tubular section of steel welded to the side of a pipe in order to help support the pipe. |
