在同一田块有顺序地在年度间轮换种植不同作物或不同作物种植组合模式的种植方式。是利用不同作物生物学特性和不同复合种植组合模式的生产技术特性，实现用地养地相结合的一种综合性技术措施。作物种植组合模式有间作、混作、套作复种、接茬复种和再生复种等。作物及其轮换时空顺序安排相对规则稳定的轮作模式称为轮作制度，也称轮作制。轮作制以年度为基本时间单元。
