暖温带半湿润气候旱生森林条件下形成的通常具有黏化层和钙积层的土壤。在中国土壤分类暂行草案（1978）和全国第二次土壤普查分类方案（1988）中，列为半淋溶土纲褐土土类；在中国土壤系统分类（1991）中，列入硅铝土土纲半干润硅铝土亚纲；在美国土壤系统分类中，根据淀积黏化层的有无，大致相当于半干润淡色始成土、半干润淋溶土和夏旱淋溶土；在联合国世界土壤图图例（1988）中，大致相当于艳色始成土、艳色高活性淋溶土等。曾称石灰性棕色土、山东棕壤、森林棕钙土。又称褐色森林土。
