利用一种或多种检测技术对车辆的轴数、轴距、轮胎数等参数进行自动检测，并形成目标对象车辆类型信息的整套软硬件系统。又称自动车辆分类系统。在应用中可独立存在，亦可配合其他装置或设备使用，主要用于对指定区域内的车辆进行监测、行为干预或控制。主要由车辆信息检测单元和信息处理单元构成。系统对车辆类型的判别标准应依照《汽车和挂车类型的术语和定义》（GB/T 3730.1—2001）、《机动车辆及挂车分类》（GB/T 15089—2001）等相关规定。见车辆自动识别系统。
