希腊共和国位于欧洲东南部、巴尔干半岛的南端。北同保加利亚、马其顿、阿尔巴尼亚相邻，东北与土耳其的欧洲部分接壤，西南濒爱奥尼亚海，东临爱琴海，南隔地中海与非洲大陆相望。全境有岛屿3000多个。面积131957平方千米，其中15%为岛屿。人口1074万（2018），98%以上为希腊人，其余为穆斯林及其他少数民族。官方语言为希腊语，东正教为国教。首都雅典。
