硅工业产品根据其纯度主要分为工业硅（或称金属硅）和多晶硅。一般将从硅矿石经电炉冶炼的产品称为工业硅，含硅量98%左右。以工业硅为原料，经物理或化学提纯后，得到含硅量99.99999%（7N）以上的产品称为多晶硅，多晶硅经定向生长可制得单晶硅，可用于集成电路、电子器件和太阳能电池。中国硅矿储量丰富，主要分布在云南、新疆、四川、甘肃、福建、湖南等省区。
