将放射源置于体外一定距离，通过人体体表对体内肿瘤病灶进行照射，利用放射线对细胞的杀灭作用，对其进行治疗的方式。是放射治疗的主要手段，广泛应用于体内各部位肿瘤的治疗。又称外照射。
