温带、寒温带干旱和半干旱地区山地旱生森林灌丛植被下发育的土壤。在中国土壤分类暂行草案（1978）及第二次全国土壤普查分类（1988）中，列为半淋溶土土纲灰褐土土类；在中国土壤系统分类中，相当于干润始成土或钙积干润均腐土；在美国土壤系统分类中，部分相当于钙积半干润软土[注]、黏淀半干润软土[注]、弱发育暗色始成土[注]；在联合国世界土壤图（1988）图例中，部分相当于弱发育灰色森林土[注]、钙积灰色森林土[注]、腐殖质雏形土[注]单元。20世纪30～40年代，曾称森林棕钙土、森林栗钙土。又称褐色森林土、灰褐色森林土。
